"Who You Are" by Silverwing is Number One in Nevada Country at Number1Music

So last week, I chatted about our song "Who You Are" and how it is still lingering around the top 20 at N1M even a year later.  I wondered why that song has made a connection with people who obviously enjoy it.  I have my theories, but maybe you have a different idea. Feel free to share.  But, I am pleased to say that the song has jumped back up to #1 in Nevada Country Music for this week.  So after being included in the chart for over a year, here it is at the top again.  Quite amazing.  So, in case you missed the blog last week, here it is again.  Learn about "Who You Are" Please let me know your story about how you met your significant other.  I would love to share experiences and what song goes along with your fondest memories.  #love #marriage #music #songwriter #romance  SO HERE IT IS! THE STORY OF "WHO YOU ARE" We’ve had our new CD “County Line” on the Number1Music chart for a few months and different songs h...

We’ve had our new CD “County Line” on the Number1Music chart for a few months and different songs have jumped up to #1 and back down and sometimes back up.   It’s interesting to watch and wonder what makes a song jump back up to the top ten. One thing I noticed from watching the chart is that we still have a song from the first CD lingering around.   So, for over a year our song “Who You Are” is still bouncing around the top 20 in Nevada Country at N1M.   Wow!   That made me wonder, what is it about that song that keeps it on the radar?   I know why I like it.   Does everyone else like it for the same reasons?   It’s about being noticed.   It’s about someone paying attention to you.   It’s about someone showing interest in your thoughts and feelings.   Don’t we all want that?   It was written several years ago. And the first time we played it at the old Pure Country in Sparks, NV, one of the dancers came out of the crow...

Merle Haggard is the inspiration!

Sometimes it is difficult to decide on a topic for the blog.   I haven’t been writing this blog for very long, but I have been with Silverwing since 1994.   I assure you, there are so many fun stories to tell about the songs, the people in the band, the events that we have performed at that it is possible I could end up with a pretty long blog as time goes by.   But for today, I am going to focus on the current CD.   We are very proud of “County Line.” It includes songs written by Mel, George and myself, plus layers of musical input by each of us.   We recorded it ourselves at home, in the living room!  My bandmates and I spent many hours going over and over each song, practicing, recording and doing edits. Sean reviewed each track, listening carefully for any errors that would need correcting until every person’s performance was perfect.  While we were creating this music, I couldn’t help but wonder how it would be received.   Some...

Silverwing is a featured artist at Reverbnation

Image
Silverwing is pleased and humbled to let you know that our song “County Line,” the title track of our newest CD, is a featured song at Reverbnation this month.   This is truly an unexpected honor for us. “County Line” is a sweet song about a couple who is working too hard, worn out and stressed.   They probably have bosses snapping orders at them and bills piling up on the kitchen counter.   It’s been a long week and they are burned out and tired.   Maybe they are so wrapped up in the chores and problems that they have forgotten the romance, the love that brought them together.   He knows she needs a little special attention to feel beautiful and alive again, so he makes a plan.    He surprises her with a gift of jewelry and encourages her to dress up and look beautiful.   They jump in the pickup truck and takes a back road out to a dancehall on the edge of town, at the county line.   They wind their way through the crowd of cow...

"The Price He Has to Pay" on the charts at N1M

Image
One of the most interesting things that has happened since the new CD “County Line” was released is the response we have received at NumberOneMusic. Our first CD “Moonshine” was submitted to N1M around a year ago and different songs have risen to #1 on the NV Country chart and then been knocked down by another Silverwing original.   It’s been interesting to watch. So, of course, when the new CD was released in December, Mel went straight to N1M and uploaded the entire CD and each individual song.   The next week, he asked me to guess which of our new songs had jumped immediately to #1 on the NV Country chart at N1M.   I guessed everything, but mine.   The two songs that I wrote are “The Price He Has to Pay” and “Rich and Famous.”   I brought those to Mel as lyrics with no music, just a few verses, a chorus and a bridge and without changing a word, he created the music for them.   I can be a little unsure of myself, so when he asked me what son...

New Silverwing CD "County Line" release party

Image
Silverwing is excited to announce the release of our newest CD "County Line." It is a follow up to our first CD "Moonshine." "County Line" is filled with new original music written by Mel Warstler, Mary Warstler and Georgina Arze.  It was recorded in our home studio, engineered by our rhythm guitarist Sean Rold and issued by CDBaby.com.  Many hours were spent bringing Mel's musical ideas to life with harmonies, guitar riffs, drum rolls and hours of editing.  It was a challenge, but well worth the effort. Since the CD is dedicated to Merle Haggard, there are two Haggard covers "Silver Wings" and "Mama Tried" included on "County Line."  Merle's passing inspired Mel to write "Angel Band" with his many references to classic Haggard songs.  That song was the motivation to produce a full CD, so we pulled together some great ideas and went to work. We believe that "County Line" is a great example of...

Silverwing's been hanging around for a long, long time

Silverwing may be a new name to you and if that is true, welcome, but SW has been kicking around Nevada for over 20 years.       The first time I heard SW play was in 1994. I was hanging out with my co-worker, Lauren, whose husband was the drummer. We were chillin' at the Piper's Casino in lovely downtown Silver Springs, Nevada (population, maybe 6000) There is no downtown. It's just an intersection of two highways.       But anyway, Lauren and I were people watching and supporting the band by applauding at everything they did when Mel, the lead guitar player, comes over and talks to me. I'm like, huh?       That happened to Mel several times, where he went out of his way to talk to me and I just didn't get it. It just went right over my head. It took months before I even realized that he was flirting with me. What can I say, I'm slow about these things.       But ...
